Have your say about school admissions in Medway

It’s time for parents to have their say about the school admissions process in Medway.

Starting school, whether primary or secondary, is an important step, and the council wants to make applying for places as fair and straightforward as possible.

Parents are therefore being asked for their views on the proposed school admission arrangements for the start of the 2017 academic year.

The consultation, co-ordinated by the council, starts today and the closing date for responses is 5pm on Friday, 13 November 2015.

Medway Council is responsible for consulting on the admission criteria for community and voluntary controlled schools including the number of children who can be admitted.

For primary admissions there are proposals to increase the number of children who can be admitted to one primary school in Medway due to the expected demand for places.

Other schools, such as foundation, voluntary aided schools and academies are responsible for setting and consulting on their own criteria for entry. Any feedback on the admissions arrangements for these types of schools must be lodged directly with the relevant school.

The council is committed to providing clear guidance to parents to allow them to make the best decisions for their children, and to assist, a guide to secondary admissions will be available in June 2016 and a primary version by the middle of September 2016.

To view the proposed arrangements and take part in the consultation visit www.medway.gov.uk/admissions . Consultation responses should be sent to simon.harrington@medway.gov.uk or posted to Simon Harrington, Student Services Manager, Level 4 Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR.
