Let the dogs lead the way to a fun day out

Dogs and their owners can embark on fun days out in Medway this summer as the award-winning Day for Every Dog campaign returns.

Between 27 July and 7 August there will be five events held in local parks – an opportunity for dog owners and those thinking about getting a dog to find out more about dog ownership, gets tips and advice and take advantage of the freebies of offer:

• Free dog micro-chipping
• Free agility training and dog behaviour advice offered by Dogs Trust
• Free education corner to children teaching them how to safely interact with dogs
• Free dog tag engraving offered by Battersea Dogs Home
• Free pet checks offered by PDSA (selected dates only)

A Day for Every Dog events will take place from 11am – 3pm on:

• 28 July – Maidstone Road Sports Ground, Bournville Avenue, Chatham
• 29 July – Jackson Recreation Ground, New Road, Rochester
• 30 July – Gillingham Park, Canterbury Street, Gillingham
• 31 July – Barnfield Recreation Ground, Barnfield, Wayfield, Chatham
• 7 August – Knights Place Sports Ground, Stangate Road, Strood, Rochester

On Saturday, 8 August at Riverside Country Park there will also be a free fun dog show where people can enter their pooches into competitions such as best fancy dress and best rescue dog. Judging starts at 12 noon.

Medway Council’s Portfolio holder in charge of Community Wardens Cllr Rupert Turpin said: “Our Day for Every Dog events are always hugely popular and promoting responsible dog ownership is vital.

“These days show you can have fun while still being a responsible dog owner.”
