Making the walk to school really cool

Delighted youngsters from Kent and Medway will be getting their skates on after being named district champions in a count of walking to school.

The winning classes were the most successful at persuading their families to ditch the car for more eco-friendly ways of getting to school on the competition date of Wednesday, November 5.

Key Partners for Walk To SchoolClass representatives were invited to Silver Blades ice rink to collect a certificate for the school to display as well as an ice skating ticket for every child in the class.

On hand to congratulate the children were Catherine Underdown from Kent County Council, Cllr Mike O’Brien from Medway Council and Amy Woods of Three R’s Teacher Recruitment as well as Silver Blades’ marketing manager Laura Farragher.

Walk to School is also supported by Ashford Borough Council, Canterbury City Council, Maidstone Borough Council, Thanet District Council, Mini Babybel, Specsavers, Countrystyle Recycling, Chaucer Foundation, Eurostar, Southern Water, Orbit South, Golding Vision, Jelf Insurance Brokers, Leeds Castle, Independent Music Productions and Whitefriars shopping area.

Simon Dolby of KM Walk to School said: “Huge congratulations to these classes for embracing the benefits of swapping car journeys for walking, cycling and scootering to school. Thanks to Silver Blades we can reward their sterling efforts for green travel with this super prize.”
