Road works to start in Strood on Monday, 1 September

News from Medway Matters

Highway improvements at Strood, Darnley Arch are set to start on Monday, 1 September, for six weeks.

Works include improving footpaths, drainage, street lighting, installing and upgrading zebra crossings and resurfacing the road.

The first stage will see the closure of Cuxton Road and Priory Road under the bridge. Northcote Road will temporarily become a one-way street (northbound) in order to take traffic from the A228 to the A2. Temporary traffic lights will be in place.

The second stage will see Cuxton Road reopened under the arch towards Strood only, thereby allowing traffic to enter Strood from this direction. Northcote Road will remain one way towards the A2 and the lower section of Darnley Road will be closed and traffic diverted via Maple Road and Hawthorne Road.

The final stage will require closure of the area around the entire junction to allow for full carriageway resurfacing. This is likely to be completed over a weekend.

Works will take place between 7.30am and 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays.

To reduce the numbers of large goods vehicles using Northcote Road there will be signed diversion routes directing these types of vehicles away from the area. Access to properties will be maintained.

Medway Council apologises for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.
