News from Medway Council website

Medway Council’s lead portfolio holder for education has fulfilled his pledge to make fact finding visits to all the area’s schools in his first six months in the role.

Councillor Mike O’Brien hit his target with a visit to St Michael’s Roman Catholic School in Chatham today (Nov 8).

“I would like to thank all Medway’s schools for the wonderful welcome I have received on each visit, and would like to pay tribute to the hard work and enthusiasm of all the staff at all the schools”, said Cllr O’Brien.

“When I took over this role I was determined to get out and about and to learn from staff, parents and pupils.

“I am confident we are going in the right direction and everyone is doing their utmost to make sure we have pupils that we can all be proud of, both in terms of academic ability and as citizens of the future.”

Councillor O’Brien took over the education portfolio in May.

The deputy leader of Medway Council, Councillor Alan Jarrett, said “These visits allow us to better engage with schools and assist with the
continuing uplift in educational standards across Medway.”

“This is  fantastic work by Mike and shows not only that councillors are part of the community they serve, but also are prepared to go out and about and listen to what the community is saying”.
