Disabled Residents’ Forum gets the go ahead in Medway

News from Medway Council website

Medway Council has agreed to form a Medway Disabled Residents’ Forum following a full meeting of the council yesterday, Thursday, 18 October.

Following questions raised by a member of the public the decision received unanimous backing at the meeting.

The council recognises that disabled residents are represented by specialist groups related to particular conditions, but that there is also a need for an organisation for all disabled people across Medway, which has a formal ongoing relationship with the council.

Officers will now work with local residents and groups to explore the formation of the forum, which will be supported by the council and will have the status afforded to formal consultees when changes are proposed which impact on issues such as the quality of life, access and welfare of Medway’s disabled community.

Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Adult Services, Cllr David Brake said: “We are committed to helping disabled residents live as comfortably and independently as possible. The residents’ forum will be an opportunity for those who are disabled or live with someone who is disabled to talk to us and other local groups about the issues that affect their lives, whether it’s the way our services are delivered or their ability to access facilities and buildings in the area”.

More details on the forum and how to take part will be announced at a later date.
